About Us
Our Story
Rooted in Sounds was founded by literacy specialists Joy Sharon and Lauren Davis, who have spent years supporting learners from early years to teens — including students with dyslexia, language delays, and significant foundational literacy gaps. Their expertise in reading science, phonics, and inclusive education shaped the Reading and Writing Success System, now used by families, tutors, teachers, and organisations worldwide.
Our Commitment
Supporting all children, teenagers, and adults to read and write with confidence.
Joy Sharon
Caribbean Global Award Winner 2025
Joy Sharon is an award‑winning literacy consultant and programme developer with a strong focus on inclusive, evidence‑based reading instruction. Since 2017, she has worked with children who struggle to learn through broad, traditional methods, including those with dyslexia and other learning differences, ensuring that no learner is left behind.
As a parent and educator, Joy has seen first‑hand how clear, structured guidance empowers families to support literacy with confidence. This experience shaped her belief that reading success should never be left to chance, but built through practical tools and targeted teaching.
Joy co‑founded Rooted in Sounds to bring the Science of Reading into everyday practice across the Caribbean and beyond. Her role centres on designing scalable literacy frameworks, teacher training programmes, and accessible resources that make the Reading and Writing Success System effective for early readers, struggling learners, and older students rebuilding foundational skills. She also leads professional development initiatives that equip educators to decode the English Alphabetic Code and deliver inclusive instruction aligned with both Caribbean and UK standards.
Lauren Davis
Lauren is an experienced primary educator who has been teaching since 2011, with a strong focus on Early Years and Key Stage 1. She has worked across classroom teaching, supply roles, and one-to-one tuition, supporting children at a wide range of starting points, including older learners through her tuition work.
Lauren is also a parent and has taught her own children to read and write. This first-hand experience shaped her belief that parents need clear, structured guidance — not guesswork — to support their child’s literacy with confidence.
Lauren co-founded Rooted in Sounds to bridge the gap between phonics expertise and everyday practice. Her role focuses on translating specialist knowledge into a clear, visual system that works in real homes and classrooms. She leads the design of the workbooks, teaching resources, and digital tools that make the Reading and Writing Success System practical, accessible, and easy to use for families and educators.
